Children & Youth Education

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me,
and do not stop them; for it is to such as these
that the kingdom of heaven belongs." ~ Matthew 19:14 (NSRV)

Christian Education
is a vital part of the life of Lehman Church. It is a joy to help children learn about the God who loves them so deeply. We believe the study of the scriptures and the teachings of Jesus Christ are essential for Christian growth. We want children to experience how God's Word fits into their lives.

Our Goal
We offer a variety of quality learning experiences for people of all ages that will welcome and “engage”; “enrich" understanding and knowledge of the scripture; and produce experiences that will "change" lives through the love of Jesus Christ.

 Nursery/Toddler Class - Room B3
The purpose of our Nursery is to provide loving child care in a safe environment. Nursery Care is available during both the 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 am worship services. Our nursery staff consists of one paid Nursery Coordinator, one paid Nursery Assistant, and volunteers. All of our nursery workers are Safe Sanctuary trained and have appropriate background checks. To ensure the proper care and safety of the children, we have two attendants in the nursery at all times, and we then follow the ratio of one adult for every four children.
       9:30 a.m. hour
  • NURSERY & TODDLER CARE is provided for children age six weeks through two years.

       11:00 a.m. hour

  • NURSERY CARE is open to children age six weeks through age five.

Please drop off your 6-month to 4-year-old children in our beautiful Nursery in Room B3 in the Sunday School Education wing downstairs. You can use the door at the very front of the right aisle in the Sanctuary, and go down the stairs to reach the Nursery.

 Pre-School & Kindergarten Classes - Sundays, 9:30 a.m.
Our goal for the education of our “little ones” is to provide a fun, welcoming, and secure environment where the children can experience the love of God while learning basic Bible truths.
  • PRESCHOOL – This class is for three-year-olds, four-year-olds, and five-year-olds who have not yet entered kindergarten. With more than 40 years of combined experience teaching young children, our preschool teachers provide a welcoming and nurturing environment for the children. Each week’s lesson is built around a central Bible theme that is incorporated into the story, craft, snack, singing and prayer segments.

 Elementary Classes - Workshop Rotation - Sundays, 9:30 a.m.

Students in Grades K-6 use “rotation” style classes that focus on learning the Bible through “experiences." Each week the children travel to a different room where they explore Bible stories using drama, crafts, computers, movies, and games, and focus on Biblical themes that will help them apply these lessons into their daily lives.

 Confirmation Class - 7th Grade & up - Sundays, 9:30 a.m.

These spirited classes are designed for those who want to learn what it means to be a United Methodist Christian, confirm their Baptism vows and become full members of Lehman Memorial Church.

 Isabel Lyttle Scholarship

The Isabel Lyttle Scholarship fund was established in 1993 to honor and recognize the career of Isabel Lyttle who was a public school teacher, Sunday school teacher, and a well loved member of Lehman church. It is presented each year by the Commission on Children and Youth Education (CCYE) to graduating seniors who are active in the life of the church and who will be continuing their education in some way after high school. The purpose of this scholarship is to help with the cost of textbooks and other required materials as the students enter college or other higher-education institutions.
TO RECEIVE this scholarship, high school seniors must fill out an application form in the spring of their senior year which will then be reviewed by the CCYE. Applications are available in the church office, or can be completed online HERE.
TO DONATE to the Isabel Lyttle Scholarship Fund, please use the envelopes provided in the pews. Thank you for your generosity!

Lehman Memorial Church is committed to providing a safe environment in which our children and youth can grow and experience a personal faith through Jesus Christ. The safety of our children, youth and those who work with them is a priority. In order to ensure this, we have adopted “safe sanctuary policies." These policies follow the requirements set forth by the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church (

  • FBI Fingerprinting may be required (see below for more information)
  • A yearly “Safe Sanctuary” training which reviews the policies set forth along with any changes or additions to the policies
