High Noon is the sixth hour of the day. Mark’s story takes a deep breath and looks back over the scene of the day. Evening falls and the moon is full and bright. The afternoon’s unholy darkness gave way to twilight and all seems to have returned to normal. A godly man named Joseph makes a risky move and asks for the body of Christ, which is granted to him. He has a new tomb waiting to receive the Messiah. Joseph is the one who buys a linen shroud, washes the body of Jesus, shrouds it, and lays it in the tomb before sealing it with a stone. All must be completed before the day is over. The women with Jesus at the crucifixion are with him again in morning as the tomb is sealed. Complete preparation of the body for its long sleep was not possible, but the women see where Jesus is laid, they tuck it in their hearts, planning to return and complete their loving task.
