Music Residency Program

Music possesses much richer means of expression
and it is a more subtle medium for translating
the thousand shifting moments of the feelings of the soul.

This summer, the generosity of our Sanctuary Choir allowed us to enhance our worship experience through a partnership with the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County, one of the region's premiere audition-only musical organizations, comprised of 16 ensembles for students from elementary through high school. YOBC highlights include recent tours of France and Italy (they are headed to Spain this summer), master classes with David Kim (concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Cairn University professor), Curtis Institute students and Carol Jantsch (principal tubaist for the Philadelphia Orchestra), side-by-side performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and concerts with American violin master Mark O'Connor and legendary bassist, trombonist, composer and performer Chris Brubeck.

We will continue the residency throughout the year with these musicians playing solos as well as accompanying our choirs on select titles. Thank you for your support of this exciting program!

Ruth Kuchinsky-Smith, Director of Music

In 2018, we begin the latest phase of the program with Isabella DiVirgillio, a YOBC alumni and sophomore at the University of Delaware, where she is pursuing a degree in music education with a focus on the oboe and English Horn while playing in the university's Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. She will play the English horn with the orchestra this summer in China. Isabella provides private instruction to aspiring young musicians and also plays the clarinet, piano and guitar and enjoys composing and arranging music in her free time. You may remember Isabella blessed us with her talents this summer, including the world premiere of her original piano composition, "Window Weather." Isabella will perform an interlude at our classic services on Sunday, January 14, 2018.
